Market News

Good morning!

Thank you all so much for the support of the Universalist Unitarian Youth selling lemonade to benefit the Murfreesboro Community Garden. Gorgeous afternoon, lovely hand crafted stand, wonderful company and I would call the day a success for them. Your support means everything! We have the best market family! A special thank you to Tracy Toy (owner of Quinn’s Mercantile and long-time market customer) for the never-ending generosity to her community. She embodies the true meaning of support local!

Linda from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse sends this note from the greenhouse:

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse is still awash in color, and your perennial garden can be colorful in August too! Carefully consider sequence of bloom when you select new plants. Try adding a couple of these to make the sunny areas colorful in late summer: Carnations, Coneflowers, and Gauras, all of which will bloom all summer; also Daylilies, Pincushion Flower, and Tradescantia, all of which bloom earlier in the season and then return for an August encore.

For the shady areas, you might try some of these beauties: Species begonias, Toad Lily, and Plumbago, all to be accented with various shades of colorful foliage of Coral Bells and Hosta. We also have some very nice late-blooming azalea bushes which are not listed on the market. If you’re interested in these, please drop me an email at tnhomeschooler@yahoo.com .

Still waiting their turn to bloom are the Anemones, Asters, and Sedums. All are spectacular in an early fall garden.

If you haven’t tried some of these beauties, you owe it to your perennial garden to add a few now! All are available on the market from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse. Late summer is a fine time to transplant flowering perennials, if you are diligent to keep them well-watered during our traditionally drier August.

Blessings,
Linda

Have a wonderful start to your week and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

Market News

Good morning!

Linda from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse sends this note from the greenhouse:

Is your garden looking a little tired & drab? Does it need some colorful perennials? Dogwood Valley Greenhouse plants are available all year round, unlike the box stores. And I pay special attention to sequence of bloom when I add new plants to the market. Right now I have several in bloom, including the “old reliable” carnations, which have bloomed all summer. These garden carnations have shorter stems and smaller blooms than the florist types, but they bloom prolifically, and their scent is heavenly! I have restocked several types of Coneflowers, and although these plants are young and small, they have been blooming very nicely for most of the summer. Some of the reblooming daylilies, as well as Pincushion Flower and Tradescantia, are back in bloom after a short rest. The gauras aren’t prolific bloomers, but their delicate dancing flowers will continue all summer till frost. The less common Species begonias are just coming into bloom now in the shady greenhouse. These are native to this area, but I cannot tell whether they are true perennials, or whether their prolific self-seeding is the reason I have them every year. I also currently have Toad Lily and Plumbago in bloom, more shade-lovers whose blooms are sure signs of shortening day length. Coral bells are also very colorful in the late summer shady garden, with bright foliage color choices between lime green and burgundy, some with striking markings. Still waiting their turn to bloom are the Anemones, Asters, and Sedums. If you haven’t tried some of these beauties, you owe it to your perennial garden to add a few now!

Thanks so much!

Blessings,
Linda

Market News

Good morning!

Here’s the latest from the market:

Erdmann Farm is away this week.

Smirk is BACK!! I know you’ve been waiting patiently and now the wait is over!

Fingerling potatoes were added by Nature’s Wealth

Botanical Harmony Farm is adding a wound care spray for those who prefer to sanitize and cleanse a wound or bites with a spray rather than a salve.
We have had rave reviews from human users- “great for itchy bug bites when I forget to use your bug spray”

and a canine owner- " Just wanted to tell you how much the Wound Care Spray WORKS! My dog has hot spots, BAD ones and nothing worked on them until your spray!!"

That was incredible to hear! Wild- harvested healing plants infused into witch hazel and other healing, skin friendly, all-natural ingredients! Comes in a handy aluminum spray bottle.

Also try out our spray deodorant! Witch hazel infused with wild rose petals are astringent while Magnesium is properly deodorizing, naturally, with no antiperspirant! Sweat away with confidence that this deodorant WORKS!

Short Mountain Cultures offers us some of the most delicious kraut! Choose from a variety of offerings. We use the kraut instead of pickles on bean burgers, as a side dish or even straight out of the jar as a snack! Excellent taste and nutrition!

Such a busy and bountiful time right now! Hope you are able to slow down and enjoy! No slowing down here, but we are enjoying :).
