Market News

Good morning!

Happy Valentine’s Day market family!

BIG NEWS!! Beginning March 2, we will move the pickup location to L & L Contractors at 25 S Public Square, Murfreesboro. This is a permanent move!
We thank Rod and Maura at Southern Stained Glass for providing the market with such a wonderful pickup location for many years!!

We will continue to announce and try to make the move as seamless as we possibly can! Thank you for your patience in all these recent changes!!

Product News:

Sean with Nuance Coffee & Tea adds:

Nuance Coffee & Tea has added 5 new Matcha style teas, to our offerings, this week. These tea, and herbal leaves, have been ground into a super-fine powder so that you can drink the entire leaf for maximum strength antioxidant, vitamin, and mineral absorption into your body. Simply dissolve into hot water or blend into milk, juices, Smoothies, or any other favorite beverage. Blending with a Magic Bullet blender works great for this style of tea. Our Matcha products contains NO fillers, or sugar, which add unnecessary, artificial, weight to the package. They are just pure leaves and nothing else.

They are:
1. Elephant Kenya Ivory White Matcha – (FT), (ETP)
2. Kenya Green Flamingo Matcha – (FT) (Org.)
3. Kenyan Black Matcha – (FT), (ETP)
4. Malawi Banda Green Matcha – (FT)
5. Yerba Mate – Ground Matcha Style – (Org.)
Thank you and, as always, “Enjoy”!

Alfresco Pasta has added Spinach Fettuccine in 1 or 2 pounds! This would be incredible with their pesto, a bit of cream and seared greens. Maybe a hunk of warm bread from Flying S or Double Star Bar Farms

Rocky Glade Farm and Erdmann Farm continue to add vegetables to the market offerings! What a welcomed site that is!!

ALSO Stones River Market has gift certificates listed! What an incredible gift to share with someone…. as a housewarming, a new friend, Mother or
Fathers day or just to something wonderful to share with someone who doesn’t quite understand “buying and supporting local” or whole foods eating.

Again, we thank you for the support of this market and the growers/makers who rely on you for their livelihood. What an incredible community this market truly is!

Market News

Good morning!

We have a new vendor on the market, Hope for Health joins us offering baked goods and candies. We asked her to tell us about her business practices. She wants everyone to know: I am all about packing in as much nutrition into everything I make (with the exception of my candy). I only use the best ingredients whenever possible, including organic, natural, etc., in all of my baked goods. I grind my own flours, use fresh farm eggs, fresh unprocessed honey, organic coconut oil, and organic spices. Even my candy, which I see as an occasional treat, only has pure cane sugar, real butter, etc. Thanks!

She has added many goodies along with customized Valentine treats for your loved ones and delicious pumpkin muffins (we have first-hand experience with them). Check those out!

Chef Jenny with Seeds of Success has added some gorgeous GLUTEN FREE Heart Healthy Brownies. Instead of flour, these brownies are made with heart healthy, protein rich black beans. The chocolatey richness comes from cocoa, dark chocolate chips, pure cane sugar, and farm fresh eggs. You won’t even know it’s missing flour. Consider it a guilt-free Valentine’s Day treat, for yourself, or a loved one.

Wedge Oak Farm has ground turkey, 1 lb chub of our pasture raised turkey ground with our Mangalitsa fat. They have also added artisan Tacchino. “Tacchino” is Italian for “Turkey”. Our Tacchino is a light and mild italian turkey sausage made in small batches.

Botanical Harmony Farm added all-natural, goat milk soaps in many plant-based scents.

Nuance Coffee & Tea lists new Matcha tea blends.

Our vendors sometimes bring extras to sell during pickup. Last week Hope for Health and Double Star Bar Farm brought muffins and sourdough breads. These were a huge hit and we hope to have more this week. They will be at the table next to checkout.

ALSO Stones River Market has gift certificates listed! What an incredible gift to share with someone…. as a housewarming, a new friend, Valentine’s Day, Mother or fathers day or just to something wonderful to share with someone who doesn’t quite understand “buying and supporting local” or whole foods eating.

Again, we thank you for the support of this market and the growers/makers who rely on you for their livelihood. What an incredible community this market truly is!

Market News

What a wonderful break in the weather this weekend! We hope you all were able to soak up some sunshine to maintain healthy body and mind!

The market has many options to also keep your body healthy:

We welcome Casey Family Farm, Lois and Dennis Casey raise a small herd of Jersey and Guernsey cows in Viola, TN and offer us a pasteurized but never homogenized milk under the dairy section. They do not use hormones, other production stimulants or chemical treatments unless absolutely necessary. You can read more about the Casey Family here

Frontier Family Farms continues to provide us with incredible tender greens.

Chef Jenny with Seeds of Success has added a Vegan, gluten free Corn Chowder with Quinoa in a 16 ounce container. She has also added a “Chick Patty” from, of course, chickpeas! Paired with nearly any of Double Star Bar Farms or Flying S savory bread options, this makes a wonderful meal for the rain and cooler night temps headed our way.

Read more of Chef Jenny’s success story here

Flying S has also added Oatmeal Cranberry cookies and Magic Bars! Check those out for a great snack or desert.

Lots of meat, eggs, milk and more are available for your weekly grocery needs! Your input and feedback is always welcome as this is OUR community market. Tell us what you want! Our farmers/makers rely on you for our livelihood so we want to hear what you are in need or search of! Thanks!

Thank you also to everyone for the lovely welcome and to John for the years of work he has put into this market to make it what it is today for you the customer and for the local growers/makers!

As a small showing of our gratitude, each order will receive a free sample-sized bar of *Botanical Harmony’s all-natural, organic goat milk soaps.

Market News

Welcome back to another week of locally grown and made products. Last week was another interesting week of weather and fortunately, the Market was not drastically affected. I hope everyone made it safely through the snow.

I started Stones River Market in 2008 with just a handful of vendors. Farmers and producers have come and gone through the years. Progressively we have grown to where we are today and there have been many changes along the way.

All this time I have had a full-time job in Nashville. Now that I have “retired,” I am busier than before. With one of my current jobs, I have the opportunity to travel to places I have never been and can no longer give the Market the attention it needs.

Effective immediately, management of Stones River Market is being transferred to Tracey Burks and Ashleigh Newnes. They have been a part of the Market for several years as Botanical Harmony. As I have been training Tracey and Ashleigh these last couple of weeks, they have been focused on making the transfer as smooth as possible for both the vendors and our customers. They bring with them some new ideas for expanding our vendor base and I am excited to see the potential growth for Stones River Market.

You will still see me at the Market since I will continue to grow produce and flowers. I will also be assisting Tracey and Ashleigh as needed as we move forward. Many of you have been with the Market a long time and I consider you friends not just customers. Please give Tracey and Ashleigh the same support that you have given me all these years.

Sincerely,

John

As for other Market news:

Alfresco Pasta is having a special on some of his products including the butternut squash ravioli and portabella spinach ravioli. Look under Noodles, Pasta and Italian Sauces for the complete list.

Flying S Farms keeps changing the soup options so this week she has added a potato shroom variety.

Rod with Double Star Bar Farms continues his work in kitchen and has now added New York style bagels. You will find plain and salted this week.

There are plenty of other products available this week. Browse the categories to see what your will find.

Market News

Welcome back to another week of local products as well as probably the coldest week of winter yet. Due to the cold weather, Rocky Glade Farm is taking a break this week but there are still plenty of vegetables from Frontier Family Farm. Watch for Erdmann Farm, Ferris Family Farm and Flying S Farms to update their inventory.

We have a new vendor joining us this week. It is Nom Noms Dog Treats. Sandy comes to us from Nashville with gluten free wheat free deliciously nutritious dog treats.

Flying S Farms has updated her frozen soup listing with a vegan tomato basil. Partner that with the Artisan bread from Double Star Bar Farms and you have a delicious winter meal. The cheese dips or pastas from Alfresco Pasta would also be a nice accompaniment with the bread.

If you like making your own soups, then look to see what Farrar Farm, Wedge Oak Farm and West Wind Farms has to offer.

Winter weather is back and a perfect time for soup. Here is a recipe I found that uses kale and Italian sausage. It comes from Tammilee Tips.

CROCK POT ITALIAN SAUSAGE WEDDING SOUP RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb ground Italian Sausage
1 red onion, diced
2 carrots, sliced
6 cups chicken stock/broth
4 packed cups kale, chopped
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp minced garlic
1 bay leaf
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
½ cup small pasta
salt and pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add in ground sausage and cook until browned. Drain off excess fat, return to heat and add in onions and carrots, cook until onions sweat
  2. Transfer meat and veggies to the crock pot. Add in chicken broth, kale, lemon juice, garlic, bay leaf, crushed red peppers and stir to combine
  3. Cook on low for 5 hours, add in pasta and cook for 1 additional hour
  4. Season to taste with salt and pepper, serve with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top
