Herb Plant - SteviaGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.50 ( Gallon Pot )Available (Exact): 2
Stevia is a South American herb used as a natural sweetener for centuries. The leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant have a refreshing taste, zero glycemic index, zero calories and zero carbs. It is 25-30 times sweeter than sugar, and far more healthy! As a sweetener and sugar substitute, stevia's taste has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar. Because stevia has a negligible effect on blood glucose, it is attractive as a natural sweetener to people on carbohydrate-controlled diets. For more information about uses for this plant, see http://sweetleaf.com/ and http://www.stevia.com/ .

Herb Plant - Thyme, EnglishGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.50 ( Gallon pot )Available (Estimated): 1
Thyme is a low growing, woody perennial. It is most fragrant and flavorful when grown in dry, lean soil. Too much moisture will rot the plants. The pink, lavender or white tubular flowers are very popular with bees.
A Mediterranean herb, thyme holds its flavor in cooking and blends well with other flavors of the region, like garlic, olive oil and tomatoes. It is flavorful fresh and dried. It makes a nice complement to tomato sauces, cheeses, eggs and vegetables. It can also be used to flavor jellies, breads, vinegars, marinades, sauces and in bouquet garni. Thyme is also considered to have antiseptic and preservative properties and has long been used medicinally as well as when preserving meats. Established thyme plants can be harvested at any time. Simply snip a few stems. The blossoms are also edible and are at their best when first opening.
Thyme is often used as a ground cover, and trailing varieties look well in pots, especially the golden and variegated varieties. Thyme can be used as an edger, but it has a tendency to die out in spots.

Herb Plant - Thyme, Lemon VariegatedGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.50 ( Gallon pot )Available (Estimated): 2
Lemon Thyme grows like English Thyme but definitely smells and tastes like lemon. Lemon Variegated Thyme has beautiful vibrant green leaves with a hint of gold edging. It can be used in any recipe calling for lemon juice, lemon zest or lemon flavoring. Lemon Thyme added to marinade is great with fish or chicken. Lemon Thyme's glossy green foliage can be sheared to form one of the knots in a traditional knot garden.
Easy to grow, lemon thyme needs only a regular light pruning after the first year. It tolerates drought and deep freezes well. It is best cultivated in a hot, sunny location with well-drained soil with a pH of about 7.0; it prefers slightly alkaline conditions. Add lime to raise the pH if needed, and a slow-release fertilizer at or before planting and again each spring. Mulching with limestone gravel or builder’s sand improves drainage and prevents root rot.
Plant thyme in your herb garden, at the edge of a walk, along a short garden wall, in containers, along a walkway and between steps. The flowers open in spring and summer and are attractive to bees.
Harvest leaves as you need them, including through the winter. Strip the tiny leaves from woody stems before using.

Hosta01 Plant, Large - Blue-Green & Creamy-Yellow CenterGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.50 ( Gallon pot )Available (Exact): 0
This large cultivar variety (28" tall x 45" spread) features massive thick blue-green leaves with an intense creamy-yellow center. Mature leaves are puckered.
This hosta is slug resistant, and can also tolerate a bit of sun. Good for planting in mixed containers or tubs.
Sunlight requirements of different hostas vary widely, depending on foliage color, which ranges from a deep blue to a light chartreuse to a soft creamy white. In general, the lighter the foliage, the brighter the sun. The deeper darker foliage retains it color best in moderate shade, while the variegated varieties need more sunlight to keep their white and gold stripes. All hostas need some shade and few, if any, will do well in strong direct sunlight. Plant in rich organic soil with a slightly acidic pH. Dig the planting hole about a foot deep, and wide enough to accommodate spread. Hostas are rugged and tolerate almost any soil. Drainage is most important, to prevent dormant season crown rot. When newly planted, keep the roots moist, not wet. Once established, hosta plants aren’t fussy. Fertilize each spring and again in summer. Granular fertilizers should never sit on the leaves.
Deer find them tasty, and you might try planting daffodils around your hosta to keep them away from the emerging shoots. Slugs leave unsightly holes in the leaves, but a light scattering of sand around your plants will help keep them away.

Hosta04 Plant, Midsize - Compact, Glaucous Blue-green, Heart-shape LeavesGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.50 ( Gallon pot )Available (Estimated): 1
18" tall x 30" wide - Tardiana Group (generally large-leaved cultivars with blue-green leaves.) Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, pollinators, deer resistant, rabbit resistant, slug resistant, low maintenance. ("Resistant" does not mean "proof".) An excellent hosta for a small garden with a compact, medium-sized mound of gorgeous, glaucous blue-green, flattened, heart-shape leaves. Pairs well with bright, variegated hosta varieties. Slow growing. Retains its color well in the heat of summer in shadier locations. Dies back in winter. Tall stems of showy pale lavender-mauve flowers on 26" stems emerge in summer. It is an erect plant growing to about 14 inches tall with heavily textured. spear-shaped blue-green leaves resembling seersucker fabric. Hostas prefer consistent moisture but will tolerate somewhat dry soil. Drainage is most important, to prevent dormant season crown rot. They might wilt in very warm temperatures unless frequently watered, and high humidity sometimes encourages snails and slugs, which can chew ragged disfiguring holes in the foliage. Keeping the ground free of thick mulches can discourage slugs and snails.
