Weblog from some of our Grower’s:

Periwinkle and Pine Co.: This is my first, but not last, submission to the weblog! This week, I’ve been focusing on handmade Valentine’s Day and spring wreaths. Each day, I’ve been thinking up and creating something new, interesting, and one-of-a-kind. Making wreaths is pure joy for me and I’m so pleased I’m able to share them with you here.

This week, I’m featuring the following wreaths:

Double Heart Wreath with a LOVE ribbon
Poinsettia Berry Heart Wreath
Purple Peony Heart Wreath
Romantic Fern Heart Wreath
Purple Spring Nest Wreath
Yellow Spring Nest Wreath

Have a wonderful week!

East Fork Farm:

Grow significantly larger, stronger, and produce more abundant and better-quality flowers, fruit, and vegetables.100% safe around children and pets.

Bean Man: We trust you are getting through the colder weather well. If you saw our Facebook and Instagram posts this week, you’ll see where Bean Girl put a twist to her normal recipe for white beans – bay leaves – along with the ham, excellent as always.

We have our Fresh Dry Beans, Chili Mix,
4 Bean Soup Mix available
as well as our Gluten Free Flours including:
4 different Pizza Crust Mixes, Pancake Mix, Refried Bean Mix and Black Bean Dip Mix
all of which are easy, delicious, Gluten Free (some are Vegan) and perfect for the season.

We are finishing up on our upcoming Gluten Free Sourdough Bread Mixes as well as 2 Soup Mixes to add to your choices in the coming weeks. For this week, please notice we’ve added an option to purchase our 4 Bean Soup Mix at a lower price – you will just need to turn in the jar at the market during pickup on Wednesday so take advantage and continue to enjoy a really delicious soup. It will be titled “4 Bean Soup Mix – Jar Exchange”. Thank you again for your support of our Stones River Market!

Oakview Farm:
We are gearing up for Spring with lots of greens!! We have radishes, spinach, salad mix (with kale, lettuce and young mustard greens), and spring onions. Since it’s been so cold, we have also been baking and will have fresh sourdough focaccia bread with garlic, rosemary and olive oil drizzled on top! We also have a variety of jams available: apple butter, rum raisin apple preserves, green tomato marmalade and more!

Barefoot Acres Herbs: We are keeping busy, even in the winter. That’s the beauty of storing those dried herbs immediately after harvest. Our CBD with Anti-Inflammatory Herbs Salve is super fresh, along with the Healing and Respiratory Salves. Check out our other products. Glycerides have a shelf life of up to two years, while tinctures have been known to last 10 years under proper storage conditions. There are lots of yucky things going around right now; help support your body with Vitamin C Tincture and Elderberry Syrup.

Quarter Spring Farm:
Cold weather is hard on your skin. Protect your body’s largest organ with goat milk soap or lotion from quarter spring farm. We also have lots of delicious chicken to warm your belly on these cold winter days.

Body & Soul Teas:
I made a batch of Shoo-Flu this weekend. This blend combines, elderberry, hibiscus and red raspberry leaf, ginger and mints.

Whenever I am sick, I like to prepare several servings at a time and pour it into a thermal bottle so that the tea stays hot and I can sip it throughout the day. I also like to enjoy broths or soups; my favorite is Tom Yum soup (spice level 2 with extra ginger)

Pat’s Sore Throat Tea
Juice of half a lemon
1-2 dried sage leaves(can also use fresh, but maybe use just 1 leaf)
Fresh ginger, about 2t, chopped
8-12 oz water
Honey
Cayenne pepper(optional)
Add the water to a pot along with the above ingredients. Bring to boil. Cover and simmer 15-20 minutes. Strain and add honey to sweeten.

This is made to taste, so adapt ingredient accordingly. If I am using organic lemon, I will add chop up the lemon and add it to the mixture as well. I like ginger, so I add a little bit more than 2t. I add cayenne for it’s numbing effect. Just a dash will do ya! I like honey as a sweetener, not just because it taste good but because it has its own healing properties. Its soothing to the mucous membrane of the throat and fights germs. Did you know it was used in WW1 for wounds? And, when it comes to honey, local is best, so be sure to check out the Singing Bee honey available here on the market.

Everybody is different so if you are a person that is more warm/ natured, I would omit the sage, ginger and cayenne and add peppermint to the lemon and honey.

I also have herbal steams available. These are great for nasal congestion and coughs. Steep herbs in a Mason jar or pot or add them directly to hot water and drape your head with a towel to inhale the steam for 5-10 minutes.

May you be blessed body & soul! Pat Greene

Ewe and Me Creamery:
We have launched some new products for the market. We usually focused on sheep milk and dairy products, we now have sheep milk soap.

Currently we have Valentine’s Day Sheep Milk Soaps available.

Scents like Dusty Rose,
Kentucky Bourbon,
and Sensuous Sandalwood.

We also provide unscented soaps for those with sensitive skin. The soaps that are dotted have coffee grounds that make it very exfoliating. We will be milking in April. Hoping to have on the market for sheep milk around then.

Quinn’s Mercantile:
We are always receiving new items each week, we have several great Spring clothing items and Valentine items for you or that special loved one in your life. Many of our local products proudly represent Murfreesboro and Tennessee.

Bluhen Farm:
We will be in taking a brief break for this month of February. We hope to be back early March. The cold weather and lack of sun have hit us hard this winter.

Five White Oak: I was hoping to back on the Market with my items but unfortunately still requiring more rest and healing time. A quote from her Dad…this is just for now not forever!

Bean Man: As promised, the second pizza crust mix has been added to the market -

Gluten Free Tapioca and Rice Pizza Crust Mix.

Just as with the Almond and Coconut Flour Pizza Crust Mix, all the dry ingredients are packaged so that you can make 2 pizzas with no measuring of the dry ingredients required. Just see the back label for the wet ingredients and the directions.

The dough made with this crust is just as workable as the Almond and Coconut Flour Mix and yields a very similar texture and thickness.

Tapioca and Rice Flour are very familiar to us as they are the base ingredients along with White Bean Flour to make pancakes as well as the base ingredients for an upcoming bread surprise.

Body & Soul Teas: Greetings from Body & Soul Teas! I have added several new teas to the product line and am working on additional products for 2022. The newest blends are AWE-tumn, a blend of fragrant, warming herbs that are perfect for sipping during the cooler months. VERY MERRY BERRY combines blueberry, elderberry, and hibiscus with warming spices for a delicious, spiced tea that would also be tasty combined with apple cider. I have also added a few mesh strainers and cotton tea bags. Both are reusable and easy to use…..Among the customer favorites is ROOTED. The roots (dandelion, chicory, ginger, burdock) in this blend give the tea a chai like flavor. Delicious hot or cold, combined with your favorite creamer, it makes a flavorful latte. Shoo-Flu is a cold/flu blend containing elderberry, hibiscus and other herbs that support the body during a cold or flu. Because it is a supportive blend, it’s best to drink 3-4 cups daily along with plenty of water, nourishing foods and rest!…..As always, check with your healthcare provider before consuming or using any products, herbal or otherwise, especially if you are using prescription medication, over-the-counter medications or are pregnant, trying to become pregnant! or nursing.

Mama D’s Bakery: Hi everyone! Merry Christmas week!! We have added our Chocolate Peppermint Cake Roll for the Christmas season, and we also have everything else available this week! Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: LAST CHANCE
to put in your order for decorations from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse. This year I will be selling at Wildwood Christmas Tree Farm in Woodbury, and I want to be sure to reserve enough decorations for all my local friends…….So here is how this will work: prepay the total cost now, and reserve a delivery date. Note: it will be easier for me to fill your order on a later date. I promise I will not run out of wreaths and kissing balls, but it’s hard to make as many as are wanted early in the season. They should last about a month if outside, and will be just as beautiful after Christmas as before. Delivery will begin the first Wednesday of December and continue till all orders are filled. Order and pay now, pick up and enjoy in December. Coming in a month or so: Christmas cacti and African violets, both with foil florist pot wrap.
