Weblog from a few of our Grower’s:

Linwood Farm: Here is a list of benefits consuming Lamb;

Nutrient Rich
Lamb is naturally nutrient rich. It’s packed with an array of essential nutrients and is an excellent source of protein, zinc, riboflavin, niacin, iron and vitamins.

Almost every cut of lamb is naturally tender, and you don’t need to add much seasoning to make it full-flavored. It doesn’t need to be marinated. Instead, we’ve found it best to season lamb simply with salt and pepper, along with other aromatic ingredients like chopped garlic, rosemary and oregano.
It’s fancy enough to serve for a dinner party or holiday meal, but it’s also simple and easy enough to cook for a weeknight dinner.

Linwood lamb chops are cut 2”thickand are lean, tender and delicious! With their perfect serving size and attractive “T” shaped bone that runs through the meat, loin chops are simple to prepare. Season with salt and pepper then grill, broil or panfry the chops for a delicious meal.

Linwood leg steaks can be lightly salted and peppered and put right on the grill as any other steak. Cook to 135-1400F and they are ready to serve for a quick and easy main course.

Spicy Italian Brats are a new menu item at Linwood Farm. We’ve found they can easily be prepared on the stove or grill. If you want a really unique taste try smoking them on the grill for an hour or so. Yum!

Linwood Ground Lamb is a diverse product. It is the perfect substitute for ground beef in many recipes, ground lamb offers a long list of possibilities for quick and easy weeknight dinners: meatballs, burgers and sliders, shepherd’s pie, kabobs, and meatloaf. Add aromatic seasonings to impart delicious flavor and variety to any meal made with ground lamb.

Bean Man: Happy May everyone!. We have all of our fresh dry beans and bean mixes available for you this week as well as our Scottish Oatmeals and flours plus our Ready to Mix products. Remember, everything is tested gluten free and, regardless of diet, you can find several products, ingredients or mixes to suit your needs.

New this week is our Coconut Flour Ready to Mix pack which contains two packs of dry ingredients with each making a 1.5+ lb loaf of short bread with a wonderful aroma and a texture which allows for thick or thin slices – it will make a 4.5 wide x 8.5 long x 2 tall loaf in a 5×9 bread pan. As with our other mixes, we supply the pre-measured dry ingredients and you supply the wet ingredients for fresh, dairy free, gluten free bread to use in sandwiches or as a side

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: New additional to our large list of live plants! Creeping Jenny,,, Lysimachia nummularia is a species of flowering plant in the primrose family Primulaceae. Its common names include moneywort, creeping jenny, herb twopence and twopenny grass. It makes a lush, full hanging basket or an excellent ground cover. But please be aware that it is somewhat invasive; watch to be sure it doesn’t overtake more desirable plantings. It is a perennial best grown in full sun to partial shade. The leaves will be a different color based on the plant’s sun exposure: golden yellow in full sun and chartreuse green in partial shade. In hot climates, afternoon sun may cause its leaves to blanch. Water regularly and don’t let the soil dry out.

Several selections of Azalias: Deep Solid Pink, Light Pink Streaked, Salmon Red, Soft Pink with large blooms..

Hardy Herb Stacked Planter: This planter may be a little difficult for me to describe so that you understand. If you have any questions, please contact me. This lovely planter will be a beautiful addition to your doorstep or porch. The overall height, including plants, is about 20 inches tall. It has three tiers
which can be taken apart for maintenance or re-arranging. Each tier has three herb plants of various types, for a total of nine plants in the planter. These herbs were growing in 4 inch pots before being added to the planter. All plants in this planter are winter-hardy in the middle Tennessee area.

Wild Plum Seedlings: You are buying a seedling which has been grown in my greenhouse for one year. It is between 2 and 3 feet tall. Prunus americana, commonly called American plum, is a small, deciduous, single trunk tree or multi-stemmed shrub which occurs in rocky or sandy soils in woodlands, pastures, abandoned farms, streams and hedgerows throughout the State. As a tree, it typically grows to 10-20’ tall with a broad, spreading crown. As a shrub, it suckers freely and can form large colonies. It is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Remove suckers to prevent unwanted spread or to train into a small tree. It can form thickets with its thorn-like side branches so it will have to be maintained unless that is the desired result. It is fairly adaptable tough plant. Abundant tiny white flowers open before the leaves emerge in spring. Plums appear in late summer. Plum curculio and brown rot can affect the fruit of the American Plum. Other potential disease problems include leaf spot, canker and black knot. Other potential insect problems include aphids, scale, borers and tent caterpillars. This plant is susceptible to damage from deer.

Spring Meadow Farm: Arugual, Egg Salad, Fresh Cut Mint, Kale, Spinach, Spring Mix Lettuce, Super Greens, Strawberries and Watercress.

Bluhen Farm: Large selection of different lettuces this week; Batavia, Buttercrunch, Romaine, Romaine Mix, Simpson and Spring Mix

RC Farms: We have a wide assortment of produce available, meat products and the Strawberries are numerous!

Sap Creek Gardens: we have a large selection of Herbs and other items that will brighten you day and your garden up.

Flying S Farms: This week we have our Fresh Farm Chicken Eggs and we are now offering EGG BUNDLES-3 dozen, great savings! Most all our Baked Items are back on the market except the Artisan Breads – coming back soon. Several Jams and Jellies and I will be Jammin the next few days and will have more to select from.

If you follow us on social media, we also posted a picture of our Margarita Grilled Chicken using our Fresh Black Beans and yellow rice made last week – the chicken is marinated using dry margarita mix found in most grocery stores for a zesty twist.

Bean Man:
New this week to our Ready to Mix products are Cream of Chicken Soup and Keto Almond Pizza Crust.

Both are Gluten Free and the directions provided with the soup also give a vegan version. The soup package contains 3 packets of dry ingredients each making 6 cups of healthy, hearty soup. You provide cooked chicken, freshly grated or thin-sliced carrots and water – if you cooked the chicken, save the broth and use it. If making the vegan version, we suggest you use vegetable broth. The pizza crust package contains 2 packets of dry ingredients each making a 14" crust which counts out to 3.1 net carbs based on an 8 slice pizza. As with our other pizza crust packs, you provide the toppings of your choice as part of a fresh “Bake, Top, Bake” style pizza which is also really good on the second day (yes, we do that test as well).

As always, we have our Fresh Dry Beans, Mixes, Scottish Oatmeals, Gluten Free Flours and Ready to Mix products available. All are Fresh, Gluten Free and provide many alternatives to choose from as part of your healthy diet. This should be our last rollout for now because it’s getting to be time to start planting beans later in the spring and tend to our oats planted last fall and over the winter.

Periwinkle and Pine Co: We have several ‘Holiday’ special wreaths along with a great selection of other wreaths that will make wonderful gifts or brighten up your home or porch. All handmade with durable materials.

Flying S Farms: This week we have Fresh Farm Chicken Eggs and our COMEBACK products, most requested Plain Sour Dough Bread, Awesome Brownies, Tangy Lemon Bars, Friendship Breads; Vanilla Cinnamon, Double Chocolate and Lemon Blueberry and Coconut. These are available in whole loaves or half loaves, also Cast Iron Skillet Cornbread, our popular Buttermilk Biscuits and Sour Cream Biscuits. Both available in standard biscuit size and in 2" size, you can also get them FROZEN so you can pop them in your oven and they are ‘fresh’ baked by you! What’s the difference you ask…the Buttermilk is a traditional ‘like granny use to make’ and Sour Cream is a lighter texture biscuits. Both are equally delicious with our jams. Jams and Jellies this week: Pomegranate Jelly and our 2 most popular Jams; Seriously HOT Strawberry and It’s Hot Peach Habanero. Both of our HOT Jams are delicious used as an appetizer with cheese and crackers, or glaze meats for that little extra zip! Other Jams available: Low Sugar Blueberry, Low Sugar Strawberry, Low Sugar Red Grape Jelly, Just Peach, Just Strawberry, Tart Sweet Dark Cherry and Strawberry Rhubarb, Pomegranate Jelly. Be sure to check back, I will be Jammin the next few days and will have more to select from.
