News From Our Growers:

Farrar Farms LLC, Sow’s Ear Piggery, Quarter Spring Farm and Wedge Oak Farm: We all have great selections of Meats for the upcoming Fourth of July Holiday.

Carole’s Herbs (CS3 Farm): Try our Rutabaga, Holy Basil (Tulsi), and Borage.

As a cross between turnips and cabbage, rutabagas have a sweeter, buttery and sweet-savory flavor. The roots, which are high in fiber but low in calories, can be eaten raw or cooked, they can be mashed, roasted, sautéed, fried, added to soups, and even eaten raw in salads or coleslaw.

Holy Basil (Tulsi) has floral and peppery notes with a spiced, lemony aroma and flavor. It is taken to ensure vibrant health and longevity. Tulsi is an adaptogenic, digestive, expectorant, and antioxidant.

Borage has many health-promoting properties, and has been used to decrease inflammation, improve skin health, and decrease symptoms of asthma. The leaf has a cucumber-like taste, and is often used in salads or as a garnish. The flower has a sweet honey-like taste and is often used to decorate desserts and cocktails, most commonly, frozen in ice cubes.

RnR Farms: Lettuce, lettuce, lettuce!!! Our lettuce is always naturally grown, in the ground, with love and care! Remember that during these hot and humid summer months, plan on giving your lettuce an ice bath before you eat it. That should quench any bitterness that may have crept in because of the heat and humidity. We also have a little bit of kale and some more zucchini this week. Enjoy!

Mama D’s Bakery: Thank you to everyone for a record week last week! We really do appreciate y’all so much! This week we are expanding our bagel flavor choices to include the “Everything” bagel and blueberry bagels. We have also added mini scones (they are about half the size of the regular ones) in both flavors.

Flying S Farms: Pole Beans, Cabbage, Cucumbers, Kale, Onions, Several different varieties of Summer Squash and Zucchini Squash and Green Tomatoes.

Carole’s Herbs (CS3 Farm):This week we are spotlighting our cardamom honey, green leaf lettuce, and microgreens.

Cardamom can be used to treat indigestion, gas and constipation. It also lowers high blood pressure while increasing blood circulation – boosting energy and lowering anxiety. Honey contains antioxidants and has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Our soil and sun grown lettuce has Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and a host of minerals (including Magnesium, Manganese, Folate, and Potassium), as well as antioxidants, and it is delicious!

Microgreens have much higher nutrient levels than the full grown veggies, and work well added to smoothies, salads, or baked dishes. Microgreens are a little larger and older than sprouts but not quite as large as the regular vegetable, and they taste great! We have Turnip-Mustard, Speckled Pea, and Sunflower microgreens.

Mama D’s Bakery: Hi everyone! We wanted to say thank you to all of y’all that have been buying our products and continuing to support local businesses! We appreciate it so much!
This week we have added New York style bagels and Cream Cheese Danishes. We hope y’all enjoy them.

News from Our Growers:

RnR Farms: we are cranking out the lettuce even as the weather turns warm. We have a huge selection of all types of lettuces: green and red leaf, romaine, butterhead, and even some kale. And we are in the middle of salad week on our Facebook page https://facebook.com/rnrfarmstn where we are sharing tips and recipes for all things lettuce!

Here is one of our delicious recipe…Southwest Chicken Salad

1 bag RnR Farms Red Leaf
1-2 grilled chicken breast
1/2 can of corn (drained)
1/2 can of Black beans (drained)
1 cup of grape tomatoes (halved)
1 Cucumber (peeled and sliced)
3 oz. Shredded cheese
Avocado and tortilla strips, optional

Directions:
Assemble salad and use a 1:1 ratio of ranch and your favorite barbecue sauce. Enjoy!

Note: I like to quickly marinate chicken breasts before I grill them. Marinate for 15-30 minutes with 1/4 cup olive oil, a heavy splash of apple cider vinegar, and salt and pepper to your liking.

Carole’s Herbs (CS3Farm): We have early Romaine lettuce, chicory, and microgreens, as well as our delicious nutrient-dense Farmed and Foraged Greens. We also have herbal honey, gourmet mustard, and herbal teas for what ails you!

Green romaine and curly lettuce is coming in strong, as is our chicory! We have chicory leaf, which has a unique, bitter taste that adds a special “kick” to salads, sandwiches, and many other meals. Our bodies need bitter for digestion and other functions, so why not try some that is nutritious?

Add nutrition, texture, and taste to your salad or sandwich with Mustard, Kale, and Turnip Microgreens. There’s just the right amount of bite to get your taste buds’ attention! Microgreens have much higher nutrient levels than the full grown veggies, and work well adding to smoothies, salads, or baked dishes.

You will love our Farmed and Foraged greens. This blend is a great tame & wild hybrid salad complement or substitute, it’s awesome on sandwiches, and it is quite delicious topping a burger or other sandwich. If you tried forage greens you will appreciate the tasty, nutrient dense, blend that will either replace or complement your salad.

Nom Noms Dog Treats: Want to share with you the new additions to our menu. We have new treats size and a new treat flavor.

Now offering the Bite Size mini treat for those small doggies and training treats for pups.

The new flavor is Peanut Butter Banana. We have always made this treat however it is now made with flour instead of oats.

Short Mountain Cultures: Some of our Short Mountain Cultures favorites are back in stock this week! Our kimchi is made with locally grown napa cabbage, purple daikon radishes, green onions, ginger and our chili garlic sauce. ABC tempeh has also returned! Organic adzuki beans, black beans, chickpeas and millet make this delicious soy-free, protein rich tempeh! Our cold and bubbly water kefir and kombucha are also particularly refreshing as the weather heats up! Available by the bottle or half gallon jug (by the way, we take this back to reuse)!

Wedge Oak Farm: New this week: Peach and Fig Fried Pie Filling and Jam….This pie filling and jam is packed with fresh peaches! It also has dried figs that have been soaked in brandy (don’t worry, the brandy cooks off during the long cook time).

Flying S Farms: Red Stem Kale, Swiss Chard, Large head Cabbage, Hakurei Turnips, Salad and Candy Onions, Sour Dough Breads and Friendships Breads

News from The Manager: Can you believe it will be June 1st…tomorrow! Several local area Farmers Market are open or planning to open soon. Several of those market have restriction before entering their market area. Our On-line Farmers Market only restriction is you have 2 days to place your order at your leisure from home or work.

Several of our Growers have been struggling over the past month getting their crops in due to the unbelievable amount of rain we’ve all had. Some items might be a littler later than others coming in but I’m expecting some wonderfully delicious items coming soon.

Thank you for supporting our On-Line local growers and artisans.

News from Our Growers:

Farrar Farm LLC: taking a short break this week, will return next week with more delicious cuts of our Pasture Raised Beef.

Trinity Rose Oberhasli Dairy Goats:
Milk, Cheese; Garlic Dill, Spicy Italian, Kefir available this week, our Goat Ladies are back in business, more selections coming soon.

Sow’s Ear Piggery: has posted some additional pork products this week, including two Boston Butts (a summer time BBQ favorite), two tenderloins (a prized cut), and 3-pound packages of chops (these are the last 3 packages of chops we will have until late June!).

In addition, we still have quantities of pork stew meat, pork cutlet, shoulder steaks, ground pork, and fresh ham steaks (these are simply thin cuts from back leg of the pig. Brown in a skillet, cover with some liquid and seasoning. Simple!).

As always, our pork is Non-GMO fed, no antibiotics or any other additives.
SPECIAL NOTE: We have two large pork bellies (for cooking as is or making bacon). If anyone is interested, please shoot me an email. With notice, I can cut into slabs of 2 or 3 pounds if anyone is interested. I will inform you when the listing will post in the future.

Rainbow Hill Farm: It is never to late to get your garden or containers growing from the selections of our seedlings. They are delivered in Peat Pots, just drop them in the ground and the soil is worm castings which gives them a great boost during the growing season.

Quarter Spring Farm: has a full selection of chicken cuts and products, including gorgeous multi-colored eggs, available on the market this week. Check back soon for updated soap scents and new patterns of reusable napkins.

RnR Farms: For this week we continue to have an abundance of the best naturally grown lettuces and greens in Middle Tennessee. Green leaf, red leaf, romaine of all colors, kale blend, and butterhead. And this week is a great week to be a lettuce connoisseur at Stones River Market. Because RnR Farms is having lettuce week!

If you follow us on Facebook, we will release two new salad recipes every day from Tuesday through Saturday. And Monday evening we will post the best tips to eating high end, naturally and locally grown lettuce. Happy salad week!

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: There are a very few tomato plants left, and I’ve added a couple of jalapeno peppers. First come, first served, as there will be no more vegetable plants this spring. I have lots of beautiful herbs, available both as plants and as ‘Fresh-cuts’. But if you need one I haven’t listed, let me know and I’ll try to find it.

The letter of the week is ‘S’: sedum, shasta daisy, and Stokesia aster! All will make the more sunny areas of your garden shine! I still have a good selection of perennials for shady areas too.
