News from Our Growers:

The Market is filling up with delicious Summer Produce and Baked Items, order early so you don’t miss any of your favorite things.

Ewe and Me Homestead: Sheep milk is naturally homogenized and lactose friendly. Easy on those sensitive to cow/goat protein or casein. Can be frozen and thawed and still used to make cheese. High calcium content, most nutritious milk available, the only other milks that can be compared is camel and the water buffalo. Sheep milk is significantly higher in milk solids (Fat and Protein) high in A2 protein, Vitamin B12 and folate.

RnR Farm: This week we have a great selection of naturally grown lettuces, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Including a new offering for “black cherry” tomatoes. They are super sweet bites that look like the little brother of the Cherokee Purple tomato.
Also, a helpful summertime lettuce consumer tip: make sure you always allow time for your RnR farms lettuce to chill either in the fridge or in an ice bath before serving. We pick the same day as the market delivery to ensure maximum freshness. The Southern Summer heat and humidity do a number on lettuce plants, and you will always get the best taste if you allow all of the field heat to be removed from your greens (and reds). We do ice bath all of our lettuce during the washing stage, but sometimes we do not have the time available to completely remove all field heat. If you do wish to consume your lettuce on the same day of delivery, melt several ice cubes in a large bowl of water so the water temp is around 40 degrees. Then submerge the lettuce completely and allow to chill for 15-20 minutes. Remember to not let the lettuce come in direct contact with the ice, because it only takes a few moments for freeze damage to occur.

Mama D’s Bakery: Hi everyone! We have everything available this week! We have a Sourdough Sandwich Loaf, Oatmeal Cookies, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Strawberry Swirl Bread, Raspberry Swirl Bread, and Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread, Blueberry Muffins, Crusty French Bread, Organic White Wheat Bread, Mocha Muffins, Chocolate Swiss Roll, Cinnamon Rolls, Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls, Blueberry Lemon Yeast Rolls, Banana Bread and Pumpkin Bread(with the option of nuts or not), Bagels(plain, cinnamon-raisin, blueberry, and everything), Donuts(cake and yeast), Cream Cheese Danishes, Pies(chocolate fudge, pecan, chocolate chip pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato), Cookies, Granola and Protein Bars, Yeast Breads, Sourdough Breads, and Fruit Scones. If you want to enjoy being outside without being feasted on by flying foes, try our Bug Off bar from Quarter Spring Farm. It is formulated to be easy on your skin and the planet, but hard on bugs. We have several new scents available for our lotion bars and have released our seasonal summer soap scents: Kiss from a Rose and Cream Soda. Be sure to check them out this week on the market.

The flowers are borne to a height of 24 inches, above slightly hairy, lance-shaped foliage. Dazzling mounds of yellow flowers with a deep brown center. Rudbeckia is very long blooming, unbothered by insects or drought. Grows in rich, moist soil in full sun to part shade. Plant in the border garden or cottage garden, where the nectar rich flowers will attract butterflies. Use as a cut flower. Hardy in zones 4-9.
