Market is OPEN -- See you Wednesday

Good Morning, Well March is finally here! Looking at the Farmer’s Almanac Calendar, March 20th will be the Vernal Equinox (Spring) with a Full Worm Moon. Signs of Spring are popping up everywhere and daily. Animals are calving, flowers are blooming, birds are returning as others are leaving but being in Tennessee we know our weather is subject to change daily. Hard to believe we enjoyed a 70 degree day last week and will have a 16 degree low this week!

With the changes in temperature this week think Soups, Breads, and Beans! Our growers this week have items that will warm your day and snacks to munch on and Bouquets to brighten your day!

From our Growers:

BB’s Gourmet Pretzels: Excellent alternative to chips CC’s Smudges, Delicate Heat, Garlic or Lemon Pepper Gourmet Pretzels. All flavors are also available Gluten Free.

Flying S Farms: The Eggcellent Egg Special continues, Buy 2 Dozen, receive $1.00 off, buy 3 Dozen, receive another $1.00 off etc. Artisan Breads are back!

The Creole Diva: Anytime is a good time for Camellia Red Beans and Rice, Creole Jambalaya, Dirty Rice along with Cajun Salt Free Seasonings and Creole Seasoning will warm your ‘heart’ this week. Top off your special meal with Ma Maws Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce, Sweet Potato Pie or Creole Cushaw Pie

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse surely did flood this past weekend! We are used to some water in our driveway, because it runs in part alongside a seasonal creek. On occasion we have even been unable to get out of our driveway, but only a couple of other times in the past 30+ years have we had more than a foot of water. The poor daffodils were at the outer bounds of the flooded area, and I spent all the good weather this week removing dirt, debris, and sticks from among their leaves. Only a handful of blooms were damaged, and everything popped right back up as soon as the sun came out. There are still a lot of buds there, and with the cooler weather forecast for the next several days, I’m sure to be able to make bouquets for the Mar 6 delivery. At the rate the weather is staying cool, we might even have some for Mar 13. If you haven’t ordered a bouquet yet, you really should do so this week!

We are also swinging into bloom season in the greenhouse. My workers and I set up a whole greenhouse this week, making it much easier to care for these beauties as they come into bloom. Watch your sequence of bloom in your perennial borders; if you don’t have anything blooming right now, consider adding a few early beauties. Currently blooming: pulmonaria and primrose; with woodland phlox and pincushion plant running close behind. All the colors of coral bells are growing vigorously, and if planted out now, will bloom in your garden within the month.

CS3Farm: will be back on the market next week, just taking a short break.
