I’ve also added a couple of very early azaleas and will be adding more as they come into bloom, so watch for that changing list. This would be the perfect time to add some spring color to your garden! The weather is great for planting perennials and shrubs, but please don’t buy your tomatoes or peppers yet! Eat with or as a substitute for lettuce or spinach, in salads and in sandwiches, mixed with your choice of nuts, meats, fruits, dressings, cheeses, or whatever you desire. Pairs well with any of our gourmet mustards. Also Easter Bath Fizzies and Foot Soak Fizzies!

Good Morning...Maybe with some much needed Sunshine!

Welcome to another great week on the Market. Just maybe we are free of rain over the next few days so our farmers can get into their fields and start planting much anticipated produce. In the meantime there is some wonderful offerings on the market this week. Enjoy your weekend and see you Wednesday on “The Porch” of Quinn’s Mercantile. Be sure to step inside Quinn’s and see some of their wonderful items for the upcoming holidays and Spring. They have almost a little of everything! Hint: the chocolates are divine!

From our Growers:

Fallen Branch Farm: We are excited to have Fallen Branch Farm back on the market with their all natural Goat Milk Soaps.

CS3 Farm: Find our delicious Power Balls in the Muffin section of the market. You may think you hit the lottery with these delicious and nutritious snacks!

Flying S Farms: Artisan Breads are back and by request we now offer a 2 Small Loaf Combo. Contains: One Natural Small Boule and One Olive Small Boule approximately 1/2 pound each. The Eggcellent Egg Special continues, Buy 2 Dozen, receive $1.00 off, buy 3 Dozen, receive another $1.00 off etc. Our back porch and greenhouse is filling up with plants to get in our fields, waiting for things to dry up and warm up..coming soon Veggies!

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and you need a beautiful plant with green flowers for your celebration! Check out Dogwood Valley Greenhouse’s “St. Patty’s Plant”, better known as Euphorbia, or Spurge. Since this relative of poinsettia has a poisonous sap, please be aware if you have children or pets.

The African violets are coming back into bloom nicely. For a couple of months, I didn’t realize that violets really don’t like it cooler than 65* inside. The cool weather in their room prevented their blooming much after Christmas. We also have some nice hanging baskets, and the aloe veras will be restocked shortly.

The coral bells are growing very colorful, and will look spectacular in a shady corner with the woodland phlox, pulmonaria, Astrantia (Masterwort), and primroses. Perhaps best of all, the Flowering Almonds, a midsized shrub, are coming into bloom. Their little pink ball-shaped blooms come before the leaves and are adorable!

Market is OPEN -- See you Wednesday

Good Morning, Well March is finally here! Looking at the Farmer’s Almanac Calendar, March 20th will be the Vernal Equinox (Spring) with a Full Worm Moon. Signs of Spring are popping up everywhere and daily. Animals are calving, flowers are blooming, birds are returning as others are leaving but being in Tennessee we know our weather is subject to change daily. Hard to believe we enjoyed a 70 degree day last week and will have a 16 degree low this week!

With the changes in temperature this week think Soups, Breads, and Beans! Our growers this week have items that will warm your day and snacks to munch on and Bouquets to brighten your day!

From our Growers:

BB’s Gourmet Pretzels: Excellent alternative to chips CC’s Smudges, Delicate Heat, Garlic or Lemon Pepper Gourmet Pretzels. All flavors are also available Gluten Free.

Flying S Farms: The Eggcellent Egg Special continues, Buy 2 Dozen, receive $1.00 off, buy 3 Dozen, receive another $1.00 off etc. Artisan Breads are back!

The Creole Diva: Anytime is a good time for Camellia Red Beans and Rice, Creole Jambalaya, Dirty Rice along with Cajun Salt Free Seasonings and Creole Seasoning will warm your ‘heart’ this week. Top off your special meal with Ma Maws Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce, Sweet Potato Pie or Creole Cushaw Pie

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse surely did flood this past weekend! We are used to some water in our driveway, because it runs in part alongside a seasonal creek. On occasion we have even been unable to get out of our driveway, but only a couple of other times in the past 30+ years have we had more than a foot of water. The poor daffodils were at the outer bounds of the flooded area, and I spent all the good weather this week removing dirt, debris, and sticks from among their leaves. Only a handful of blooms were damaged, and everything popped right back up as soon as the sun came out. There are still a lot of buds there, and with the cooler weather forecast for the next several days, I’m sure to be able to make bouquets for the Mar 6 delivery. At the rate the weather is staying cool, we might even have some for Mar 13. If you haven’t ordered a bouquet yet, you really should do so this week!

We are also swinging into bloom season in the greenhouse. My workers and I set up a whole greenhouse this week, making it much easier to care for these beauties as they come into bloom. Watch your sequence of bloom in your perennial borders; if you don’t have anything blooming right now, consider adding a few early beauties. Currently blooming: pulmonaria and primrose; with woodland phlox and pincushion plant running close behind. All the colors of coral bells are growing vigorously, and if planted out now, will bloom in your garden within the month.

CS3Farm: will be back on the market next week, just taking a short break.

See you “On the Porch” at Quinn’s Mercantile Wednesday March 6th from 5:00 – 6:30pm, please contact me if you are unable to make delivery or are running late, please phone, email or text me so we can make arrangements to get your order to you.

Market is OPEN - Last week of February

Last week of ‘What a February’ we’ve had! Hope everyone will be drying out from this past weeks rains and flooding. Woke up this morning with the Sun shining and Blue skys. Ready to go outside and plant something lol.

Market has some great items to offer this week. Enjoy your week and see you “on The Porch”.

From our Growers:

Wedge Oak Farm is on the market this week, time to stock up!

Farrar Farm LLC: Beef Special this week, Buy $25 of beef and receive a free pound of ground beef.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: You need some cheering up during this ongoing dreary, wet weather! Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has just the thing to brighten your week, your home, your desk – bouquets of beautiful yellow-and-white daffodils. Each vase contains more than a dozen beautiful blooms and is tied with a colorful florist bow. This cool, cloudy weather has prolonged the bloom season of the daffodils, and as of this week, we are anticipating two more weeks of daffodils.

Does your garden need some early spring color? The pulmonaria and several colors of primrose are already beautiful. All these will do best in a spot where they will be in good shade during our hot Tennessee summers. They will combine well with ferns and hostas, with the pulmonaria’s variegated foliage adding summer interest as well.

BB’s Gourmet Pretzels: Excellent alternative to chips CC’s Smudges, Delicate Heat, Garlic or Lemon Pepper Gourmet Pretzels. All flavors are also available Gluten Free.

Flying S Farms: This is definitely the last week of our Carrots, still in bundles but with the greens removed. Eggcellent Egg Special continues, Buy 2 Dozen, receive $1.00 off, buy 3 Dozen, receive another $1.00 off etc.

The Creole Diva: Anytime is a good time for Camellia Red Beans and Rice, Creole Jambalaya, Dirty Rice along with Cajun Salt Free Seasonings and Creole Seasoning will warm your ‘heart’ this week. Top off your special meal with Ma Maws Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce, Sweet Potato Pie or Creole Cushaw Pie!

Short Mountain Cultures: Our Coconut Kefir: was our Top Seller of 2018, Think Greet Yogurt/Sour Cream substitute, tangy. Awesome with sweet and savory dishes. Top your taco or top it with granola and fresh fuits.

Mark your calendar for another great class on Fermentation Workshop Sun, March 17 at 1-5pm.

Elderberry Einkorn Muffin Not your light and fluffy muffin, these are hearty. Not only do these muffins contain immune-boosting elderberries — they are made with Einkorn Flour! The elderberries come from the syrup-making process, and include some honey, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger residue.

Chocolate and Flowers Valentine Herbal Tea Get your valentine (or yourself) this blend of cacao husks with roses and hibiscus flowers, with a sweet and healthy-heart treat that is naturally delicious.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: It’s spring, or at least the daffodils at Dogwood Valley Greenhouse think it is. I believe I’ve seen some red, red robins bobbin’ around among them too, but I’m sorry that I can’t add any of those to this year’s bouquets. I will have a limited number of daffodil bouquets available this week, and will do my best to fill all orders. But as always, the number of blooms available on Tuesdays is very weather-dependent. I’m actually thankful for the cooler weather, as 40’s and 50’s will prolong bloom a lot better than 60’s and 70’s. I’m hoping to have blooms for three weeks, so I suggest that you order early and often. If there are any unfilled orders this week, I will ask if you want me to fill your order next week instead. Enjoy this early breath of spring, as they smell so sweet inside your home!

You know spring is almost here when you see the primroses, pulmonarias, and woodland phlox beginning to show their colors. To tell the truth, these guys are jumping the gun just a wee bit, but we’re very happy to be able to add them back to the market. You know we’re still likely to get an ice storm sometime during February. Be sure to cover these beauties with a bedsheet or move to an unheated garage if the weather turns cold and/or nasty.
