Happy June, Welcome to the weekly online Market. Stones River Locally Grown Market is OPEN each week, Sunday 8am and Monday closing 10pm Monday evening. Pick up on Wednesday 5-6:30pm. Convenient ordering from your computer or iPhone.

One year ago today, I took on the roll of Market Manager for the Stones River Market. It has been a wonderful year assisting John Erdmann with the Market and meeting all our great Customers and Growers supporting the market. I’m looking forward to another great year ahead and many more. Soooooooo…….that being said, sounds like we need a Celebration Drawing for my 1st year and the upcoming Markets 11th Birthday!!! During June and July your name will be put in ‘the hat’ when you place your order. There will be a 1-$25, 1-$10 and 2-$5 Gift Certificate drawing August 7th, be sure to place an order each week over the next next 2 months to increase your chances for the Gift Certificates.

News from our Growers:

Oakview Farm: We have Duck Eggs for sale this week from Mallard, Welsh Harlequin and Pekin Ducks. They are great for baking as the whites are much more sturdy than chicken eggs. Duck eggs also have a more ‘eggy’ quality so they are great for frittatas and quiches.

Happy Easter and the Market is Open

Good Easter Morning to everyone. The Market is open until Monday evening at 10pm. Many items have limited quantities so be sure to place your order early so you don’t miss out.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: May 22nd we will be having a ‘Meet and Greet’ Our Grower event. Several of our Growers will have tables set up with items and information about them. Last years event was a hit and many have asked for it again.

True sign of Spring was a surprise arrival of Strawberries from_* 6R Farms*_ at delivery last week. They are on the market today. Available in gallon buckets or by the quart box.

We have several New Growers being added to the Market, RnR Farms have beautiful bagged lettuce on the Market this week.

Oakview Farm and Spring Meadow Farm will soon have their items available. Few more Growers are currently being reviewed for the Market. We are very excited seeing our Market Growing, please share the Market with your family and friend. Be sure to follow us on Facebook also.

There are New Items and returning items are arriving on the Market, notice the the ’What’s New’ section and ‘Feature Section’. Remember you can also do a search, type in what you are looking for and if it is available it will pop up for you.

From Our Growers:

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: It’s tomato and pepper plant time in Tennessee! We’re officially nearing our “average date of last frost,” which I’m told on the mountain is April 28. It’s been basically an “early spring,” which to me means the ground may be warmer than usual. So I think it will be safe to plant tomatoes and peppers by May 1, and the ground should be warm enough then to encourage growth. I would suggest purchasing your tomato plants this week and keeping them in the pots, in or near your garden area, for another week so that you can bring them inside if we hit another cold night (after 4/20, which I know will be cold). Heirloom tomato varieties I have this year are: Brandywine, Supersweet 100 Cherry, Mortgage Lifter, Mr. Stripey, Rutgers, and Beefmaster. Pepper varieties are: Purple Beauty, Sweet Banana, and California Wonder. Please just order “a tomato plant” from the market and write a comment to me concerning which variety(s) you would like. I will get them all listed separately sometime tonight or tomorrow if you prefer to wait.

I’ve also updated quantities and availability on all the perennials, herbs, and hanging baskets. You will notice several newly available now, and a couple of new-to-market additions within a week or so.

Flying S Farms: We will be continuing our ‘Eggstatic Eggstravaganza’ for a while longer while our Egg Production is high, the ladies are really enjoying the cooler weather. Buy 2 dozen or more and receive a $1 off per dozen at delivery. This week we have our beautiful Bibb Lettuces available along with Green Garlic and Bunching Onions. Swiss Chard and Bok Choy is also available.

Carole’s Herbs (CS3 Farms): In honor of National Tea Day, April 21st, we have reduced our Black China and Gunpowder Green Tea, along with many of the simple herbal teas (tisanes) to $4 per bag. Additionally, our herbal teas/tisanes have been reduced to $5.

See you “On the Porch” at Quinn’s Mercantile Wednesday April 24th from 5:00 – 6:30pm, please contact me if you are unable to make delivery or are running late, please phone, email or text me so we can make arrangements to get your order to you.

Market is OPEN -- Spring has arrived!

Market is back open with another week of great items. Was up at 1:30AM frantically moving plants back into the greenhouse! I was not expecting rain until this afternoon, I was wrong! These are baby plants having their first night out not strong enough I thought being rained on, I was wrong again! We’ve been been market farming 16 years and learn something new every year. They were all standing up strong and happy, nature is wonderful at 1:30AM.

Did a ‘walk about’ this morning, walnut tree and oak tree are just beginning to bud out…to us that means we will not have any more damaging frost, I could be wrong again! Once I see low temperature in the 40-50’s for a week, more than likely planting season has begun. Time to start really getting our hands dirty, I’m so excited this year about our farm and our market! Looking forward to what are Growers will have available and hopefully a couple new Growers joining us soon.

Few new items added to the market this week and some of the same wonderful items are available. Enjoy shopping and we will see you Wednesday on “The Porch”.

No News From Our Growers this week!
