Honey has been shown to lessen symptoms of sore throat and suppress cough. Several studies have shown the benefits of honey when used for respiratory symptoms. You can read more with a quick search of WebMD or Mayo Clinic online. Recommended methods of taking honey include eating a spoonful of honey and allowing it to trickle down your throat as you slowly swallow or adding honey to a warm cup of tea. As a reminder, honey is not recommended for infants under 1 year of age. While honey is not a cure for the cold or flu, it can sure help make the symptoms more bearable. Honey is available in a number of sizes in both jars and convenient squeeze bottles. Stock up so you are ready for the winter season!

We do our best to allow the rhythms of the earth and seasons to rule our practices throughout the year. We primarily grow and harvest live plants during the warm, growing seasons and as the cold season returns, we dry and process the herbs, using the dormant period to create our herbal products. Time of year may affect what is readily available, but we will keep our list updated.

Grown in our greenhouse on the east side of Murfreesboro, we have a variety of different herbs available in 4" liner pots. Our plants are grown from seed or cuttings in organic mix. We also offer some in dried form by the ounce as they come available.

New Grower to the Market:

Please welcome Baker Family Pastures: We are a pastured poultry and beef farm committed to raising high quality nutrient dense meat through sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Our chickens and cows will be exclusively pasture raised with no antibiotics or chemicals; the cows are solely finished on grass only, while the chickens receive certified organic feed and fresh grass every day.
Our farm was started on family land that has been conventionally farmed for 3 generations. Our goal at Baker Family pastures is to improve the land in a regenerative way while continuing the family tradition of farming. Please join us in changing the way meat is produced and consumed for the benefit of our health and that of many generations to come. We will only be selling poultry for now until we get our Cattle herd built up for possible future sales.

Available this week from our Organic Fed Pasture Raised Chickens. Hot Breakfast Sausage, Chicken Livers, Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast, Chicken Feet, Chicken Hearts, Chicken Thighs (2), Ground Chicken, Half Chicken, and Zestly Italian Sausage.

We also have one of our new Crafters: Periwinkle and Pine Company: She makes beautiful handmade wreaths, bouquets, and decor using high quality faux florals and greenery. Excellent for seasonal gifting or brighten up your home.

also welcome; Singing Bee Honey: She is a third generation beekeeper with 15 beehives in Woodbury, Tennessee. The honey produced is 100% local, raw, unfiltered, and pure. I do everything from managing the hives to harvesting the honey and labeling the jars. My plan is to continue to expand my apiary each year to increase inventory as return and new customers increase. Right now it is all liquid honey, but I plan to add cut comb honey next year.

News from some of our Growers:

Rainbow Hill Farm: Apples available this week – Rome, Mutsu, Red Delicious, Yellow Delicious.
Acorn, Butternut, Spaghetti Squash, Cabbage 10-15 pounds great for kraut or rolls, Bell Peppers, Kennebec Potatoes, Assorted Heirloom tomatoes.

Mama D’s Bakery:
Hi everyone! We have our new items, Hummingbird Cake (with a gluten/dairy free option too), Pumpkin spice bagels, cake rolls, muffins, and Ginger Cookies available again this week.

We will also have everything else available! We have a Sourdough Sandwich Loaf, Oatmeal Cookies, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Strawberry Swirl Bread, Raspberry Swirl Bread, and Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread, Blueberry Muffins, Crusty French Bread, Organic White Wheat Bread, Mocha Muffins, Chocolate Swiss Roll, Cinnamon Rolls, Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls, Blueberry Lemon Yeast Rolls, Banana Bread and Pumpkin Bread(with the option of nuts or not), Bagels(plain, cinnamon-raisin, blueberry, and everything), Donuts(cake and yeast), Cream Cheese Danishes, Pies(chocolate fudge, pecan, chocolate chip pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato), Cookies, Granola and Protein Bars, Yeast Breads, Sourdough Breads, and Fruit Scones. Thanks so much to everybody for your business!

Flying S Farms: Farm Fresh Eggs, Our Winter Squash varieties this week are: Carnival, Delicata, Spaghetti Squash. Fall items are Curly Leaf Lettuce, Turnip Greens, Hakurei Turnips, Kohlrabi Purple and Green, Mixed color bundles of Radishes, Sweet Potatoes and Mountain Fresh Tomatoes. Thank you for all the well wishes and concerns during Catherine’s (my) absence, she’s back on the computer and might make a surprise visit to the market once in awhile, her final procedure will be November 5th with approximately a 4-5 week reoperation.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: We still have lots of green and growing things! Trouble is, not too many of them are in bloom this time of year, and I feel rather badly about the lack of color. However, with the cooler fall-ish weather (which hopefully may stay around), it is a really good time to plant perennials. September planting gives perennials and shrubs an opportunity to establish a good strong route system before the ground takes on a winter chill. This in turn will allow them to initiate healthy top growth in early spring, followed by plentiful blooms. This week I’ve added several spring bloomers to the market (astilbes and columbines for shade, coreopsis and creeping phlox for sun), joining a few late bloomers with flowers now (begonias, gauras, sedum, rudbeckia, turtlehead). Don’t forget our fresh-cut herbs, or if you prefer to grow your own, our herb plants. Some of the latter are a bit overgrown, but that just gives you more fresh herbs to preserve for winter use.

News from Our Growers:

The Bean Man: We have our beans and bean mixes available. All of our products are fresh, non-gmo and tested gluten free with no glyphosates used in growth or harvest.  We always sell our products in the same season they were harvested. The Flours are Pinto, Red, Black and White made from our Fresh Beans as well as Tapioca and Brown Rice Flour which we don’t grow grow but do process and test per our procedures. I did ask before posting the last two at the market last Wednesday. We are looking to roll out Almond Flour later in October once we get our separate milling and processing area complete as well as our isolation procedures as it is an allergen and cannot be around our other products.
