Market is OPEN -- See you Wednesday

Welcome to this weeks Market, Open until 10 pm Monday. Order early before quantities available run out!

Congratulation to Our Birthday/Anniversary Drawing recipients: $25 Deborah Hunt, $10 Stacey Owen, $5 Kathy Bobo and $5 Kelsey Wells.

Did you know there are only 3 Markets until the Labor Day weekend, time to get stocked up for the last Holiday of Summer!

Several of our Growers are having the ‘it is the end of Summer’ and it is time to get planting for the Fall Produce season! Coming soon: Lettuce, Radish, Spinach, Onions, Kale, Herbs, Carrots, Arugula, Field Peas, Pumpkins, Winter Squash varieties like Butternut, Spaghetti, Acorn and Carnival.

News From Our Growers:

Oakview Farm: Do you have the Summer Squash Doldrums? Our Early Pumpkins and Early ‘Winter’ Squash available this week and Whole Chickens available this week! Our Chickens have access to a new patch of grass everyday and we supplement their diet with squash and other veggies from our garden, along with layer crumbles. We do not use chemicals on our garden. The proceeds from everything we sell will go towards starting our summer camp for children with hearing loss.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: I’m finally catching up to myself, and have added a few more new things to the market. Look for these and maybe a couple more: Fresh-cut Variegated Oregano, Southern Shield Wood Fern, Citronella geranium (“Mosquito Plant”), and Pilea nummularifolia (“Creeping Charlie”). I’ve expanded the offerings of “Hens & chicks” plants, now with green foliage, red foliage, and an old-fashioned type with smaller leaves but lots of babies.

It might be a little warm to transplant these to your garden right now. But you can always buy now to be sure you have them, and leave them in the pot in a shady area till the temperature drops just a little bit. That’s what they’d be doing at my greenhouse anyway!

I also have a beautiful basket of Rex begonias, a wooden basket with a handle containing two large plants, each in its own gallon pot. This basket would look beautiful on porch or patio for the summer, and inside for winter.

Crossing Creek Farm: Has added 100% Grass-fed Ground Beef to the Market. They raise registered Southpoll Grass Cattle as a 100% grass-fed cow to calf operation. The herd is supplemented with free-choice organic kelp, sea salt and minerals from New Country Organics. This produces an amazingly delicious beef-remember: “cook it low and slow”.

Rainbow Hill Farm: Gala Apples have arrived along with the Gingergolds.

From our Meat Producers: Farrar Farms, Sow’s Ear Piggery, Caney Fork Farms, Crossing Creeks Farm all have some great selections of meats to make your meals great. From Beef, Pork, Lamb and Chicken. Grill, roast, broil, boil…delicious anyway you prepare them.
