Market News

Welcome back to another week of locally grown and made products.

Even though Rocky Glade Farm and Erdmann Farm do not have any products listed this week, their produce in their hoophouses have survived the polar vortex we experienced last week and will return soon. Rainbow Hill Farm and Healthy Harvest Bread are taking a vacation this week to attend the annual sustainable farming conference that many of us have attended in the past.

Nuance Coffee & Tea will have coffees on special again this week. 2 bags for $20. Just choose the 2 coffees for $20+ selection and write in which 2 coffees you would like in the comment section. That’s a savings of $2.00. Teas will be on sale as well.

A Winter Penguin will put a smile on your face with a cup of coffee or cocoa. Flying S Farms has added these cookies to the Market

From Dogwood Valley Greenhouse:
Check out the beautiful succulent planters from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse. Smaller planters include 4 or 5 assorted succulents, and larger ones include 6 assorted plants. They will tolerate our dry home conditions and lower light level with enthusiasm all winter. Get yours soon; only one of each of these custom planters available!

Hidden Blessings has introduced some new soaps to the Market. These soaps are truly ALL NATURAL. They are made with Goat Milk and fragranced with pure essential oils. The color of each bar is from all natural materials. For the person who wants to go “pure” with their body products, this is for you.

Thanks so much for your support of Stones River Market, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. We’ll see you on Wednesday at Southern Stained Glass at 310 West Main Street from 5:00 to 7pm!

Recipes

Please, share your recipes with us on the Recipes tab. We’d all love to know how you use your Stones River Market products, so we can try it too!

This hearty soup with lots of vegetables and meat is a simple one pot meal. Great comfort food for a cold winter evening. Here is another recipe from Yummly (www.yummly.com) that I think you will enjoy.

Cabbage Soup with Chicken and Pork

Ingredients
3 medium carrots, chopped
2 leeks, chopped (whites only)
1 head cabbage, chopped
1 yellow pepper, chopped
15 oz. chicken breasts (3 pieces)
(4) 6 oz. pieces lean pork like pork loin (24 oz total)
2 cloves garlic
2 bay leafs
1/4 tsp cumin
1.5 oz brandy
8 cups of water
1 chicken bullion cube
salt
pepper

Instructions
Chop meat into small chunks. In a large pot, combine meat, water and spices and boil about 15 minutes on medium. Add vegetables and remaining ingredients. Reduce to low, cover and simmer for about 45 minutes. Serves 8.

I thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

John
